To qualify as a candidate for a municipal office, you must be a United States citizen, a registered voter and be a resident of Bluffdale for 12 consecutive months prior to the election. The Primary Election, if needed, will be held Tuesday, August 15, 2017. The General Election will be held Tuesday, November 7, 2017.
NOTICE OF VACANCY ON CITY COUNCIL
Beginning May 31, 2017, there will be a vacancy on the Bluffdale City Council. The vacancy is created due to the resignation of Councilmember James Wingate. Individuals interested in serving the remainder of Councilmember Wingate's unexpired term should submit their names to Wendy Deppe, City Recorder, during regular business hours. The term will last until the winning candidates from the 2017 Municipal Election are sworn in on January 2, 2018.
The City Council will hold a meeting to select the person to fill the vacancy on June 14, 2017, at 6:30 p,m., at the Bluffdale City Hall, located at 2222 West 14400 South, Bluffdale, Utah. The deadline to submit your name for consideration is Wednesday, June 7, 2017, 5:00 p.m. Mountain Time. Applicants are required to attend this meeting.
The City of Bluffdale is a city of the 4th class as defined by the Utah Code. There are 6 elected officials that make up the governing body: a Mayor and 5 Council Members.
Council Members are elected for terms of 4-years and terms are staggered so that only 3 elected officials’ terms expire at the same time. Municipal Elections occur in odd years (2017, 2019, 2021, etc.) and are held during General Elections on the second Tuesday in November.
The Mayor and 5 Council Members are elected at-large.
